AT battlereport but mainly about FLGS

Adeptus Titanicus Battle Report and more

This post was going to be a battle report for AT, but will mostly be a sad farewell to my FLGS. The Hobbytown USA in Auburn, Alabama will is shutting down after 20 years. I didn't realize this would be my last game in the store...

If you have read my blog over the years almost every single post was at Hobbytown with few exceptions. I had started to paint miniatures and play wargames before moving to Auburn for college, but it was here at the Auburn Hobbytown USA that it really developed. I started Flames of War by seeing the miniatures and 1st edition rulebook at HT. Then the owner, Steve, was incredibly supportive of out Flames of War group over the years. He not only gave us a place to play but also provided terrain and even covered our entry fees to tournaments, on occasion. It was the only supportive store for miniature wargaming in the area.

While I have a group of friends that get together and play at each others houses, I only meet them through the shop and it will be so much more difficult to grow any miniature gaming group without a place for people to see the game played.

The reason for the store closing is not a single simple answer, but more of a set of circumstances. The biggest reason is certainly the growth of online shopping, something I am entirely guilty of. If you look at the following pictures of all of my AT models and rules, it totals almost $500 that I could have ordered through the shop... but I didn't, I bought them online through various sources and spent around half that instead. How can a brick and mortar store compete with that? The second reason is that people are spending less on physical hobbies and more on video games and other media. More reasons are, competition in the R/C car market with new stores in the area and just rough patches in the economy in the past decade.

Sorry, this has taken forever, but let me just say that Steve, and the others I meet at Hobbytown USA in Auburn are the entire reason my interest in the hobby became what it is today. I have met some of my greatest friends at the shop, from wargaming to the finescale model meeting to gundam kits, so many firendships started at the shop.

The AT game

On to the game. Robert and I met up at the shop a few Saturday's ago and got in another Adeptus Titanicus game. Like the last AT post, I will just use the picture captions to tell the story. This was my first game using Warhound titans.

My force of a Warlord, Reaver and Warhound.

Robert had a mirrored force.

He deployed his group together on the left side of the board.

I moved my titans up to take the airfield (with a Salamnders Stormbird).

A look at the battle field.

From Roberts side.

This Valkyrie is not in a good spot, between two titan forces.

My Reaver putting fire downrange.

My Warhound getting ready for a flanking attack.

He found a good location.

My Reaver was taking the bulk of the fire.

This is going to hurt!

My Reaver was pummeled.
However, focused fire took out Roberts Reaver!

My Reaver survived another round, on it's last leg... literally.

But it kept firing each turn!

But the enemy Warlord put all its fire into it.

Allowing my Warhound to go for side shots.

My badly mauled Reaver finally fell.

Reaver down.

But my Warlord and Warhound quickly took their revenge!

Engine Kill. The enemy Warhound then made a hasty withdrawal.

Legio Custodes - The Gaudy Ten Thousand

Here is a teaser for some of what I've been painting. Hint, there is a lot of gold involved...

Adeptus Titanicus Battle Report

Legio Atarus Combat Exercises

I was able to get my friend Bryan into Adeptus Titanicus, he has picked up a boatload of titans that he is working on. In the meantime we got together to play a game with the titans I've finished. We made mirrored forces with a warlord, reaver, warhound and a banner of knights each.

I will just run through the game in the captions.

My maniple with one of each.

Bryan's maniple of titans.

The battlefield.
Some Solar Auxilia gunships trying to get out of the way. The were just there for looks.

Early on we just slugged it out at range.

My warhound and knights went around the right to go after Bryan's warhound.

In my mind we were going for the Salamanders Stormbird in the center.

We both loaded out for ranged combat.

Bryan's knights moving around my left flank.

The enemy warhound does not like these odds!

I have focused on the enemy reaver.

My knights just couldn't hit the warhound at range.

But my warhound was pummeling the enemy warhound.

My warlord has taken some damage, but Bryan's reaver is a wreck.

However, I hit his critically damaged reaver in its ruined torso with the volcano cannon, double ones for damage...

So it took another turn to kill the reaver, which stumbled forward and fell.

However my warlord was badly damaged and the knights moved in for the kill... but instead took fours shots from the plasma annihilator in the face and all died.

Bryan's warhound took some serious damage...

So it took off in a run.
But the knights wouldn't let it get away.

In its deaththrows his own warhound turned and fired at Bryan's warlord, but its shields held.

In my mind the princeps of the warhound had never liked the princeps of the warlord, so shot him as he died.

After some emergency repairs my warlord was able to gain all its shields back.

Somehow the knights survived fire from the warlord, my reaver destroying the warlords volcano cannon helped!

But in the end, all the combined firepower was to much for Bryan's warlord. I went with all targeted shots to the head.

It was a lot of fun and I can't wait till Bryan gets all of his titans painted up so we can run some different kinds of forces, I want to use more reavers once the new kit is out.

Adeptus Titanicus - Reaver Titan (Quantum Caelum)

Quantum Caelum (Far Sky)

The Far Sky is one of the newer titans of Legio Atarus, having been built on Atar-Median just a century before the Horus Heresy began. Princeps Janis Garvin has helmed the Reaver Titan since its addition to the legio. However during the campaign against the orks in the Segmentum Obscurus the Far Sky's machine spirit began to show increasingly aggressive tendencies. The reaver would push Princeps Garvin to close to dangerously short range to finish off damaged ork fortress vehicles and relished in crushing enemies underfoot.

Once news of the Warmasters betrayal reached Maniple Laeto Ferro and the titans were stowed on the mighty mechanicum ships for transport to the warzone, the machine spirit of the Far Sky quieted. However, Princeps Garvin can still fell the built up rage while interfacing with the titan on the journey. Princeps Garvin feels as though the Far Sky is merely waiting for it's chance to face off with traitor titans, and on that day she hopes she can control the machines will.
